Prevalence of Pediculus capitis in school children in Battambang, Cambodia

Created on 15.12.17

A new study investigating head lice prevalence in Cambodia has found an overall prevalence rate of 44.3% among school children living in the Battambang.

The study by Liao et al., et.al published in the October 2017 Journal of Microbiology revealed that 143 out of 323 school children were found to have head lice. The findings also revealed that school aged children less than 10 years old showed significantly higher infection rate than old aged school children and that girls were significantly at a higher risk of contracting the head lice.

The findings suggest that school children in Cambodia have a high head lice infection rate and therefore require effective treatment and prevention measures to treat symptoms and lower infection rates.
